Erika Spencer remembers Andrei

Эрика Спенсер, сотрудница Библиотеки Конгресса  в Вашингтоне, поделилась своими воспоминаниями:

I met Andrei in 1998. He was a "regular" at the Library of Congress and I helped him often-as did many other librarians. I was made aware by others of the fact that he had suffered a serious setback from his tumor. I helped him as much as I could in my capacity as a reference librarian. Our entire Division, and people from other areas in the LC were very familiar with Andrei and his zest for scholarship and his tenacity. He was demanding at times, but also very giving of his time and knowledge. This was only of value of course, if you shared his interests. But I did. He tutored me in Russian, informally, and at no charge, daily for a number of years. He was relentless and precise. Despite his health problems he was not one to feel sorry for himself. He kept busy, kept pursuing the things he loved and often showed to me what seemed like a fairly shrewd understanding of people and the world. His opinions often made me stifle a laugh. What I also remember about him was his devotion to his mom. Whenever I asked about her, by name (Anna Vasilievna I believe), it brought a big smile to his face.
